Dear Shelledy Families,

Would you like to help feed the hungry, and earn money for our school? Dr. Burton and his orthodontics team is hosting their 10th annual Take a Bite out of Hunger contest to benefit local schools and combat hunger in our community. Schools are invited to collect non-perishable food items for the food bank of their choice. There are two ways to earn money for Shelledy. The first is to collect more food items then any other school. A top prize of $1000.00 will be awarded to the school that collects the most. The second way we can earn money for our school is to earn the most Healthy Food Points. All food donations will be accepted, however some foods are worth more points. The school who collects the highest number of Healthy Food Points will also win $1000.00. Please look below to see the scoring system. We would like everyone who is able to participate. The class that donates the most food items between November 9th-December 14th will receive a pizza party along with an extra PE class.

Scoring System:

10 pts: Protein-Rich Foods (Nut butters, dried or canned beans, canned tuna, chicken, salmon or ham)

6 pts: Low-Sugar Fruit (Canned lower-sugar fruit, dried fruit, 100% fruit juices)

6 pts: Vegetables (Canned vegetables, pumpkins, or yams, all veggie soups, low sodium)

4 pts: Soups or Chili (low-sodium canned soups, or stews, low sodium chili with veggies)

4 pts: Healthy Grains (Rice, pasta, low-sugar oatmeal, granola, or cereal with less than 8 grams of sugar)

1 pt: Sometimes Foods (Foods high in sugar, fat or sodium, ramen noodles, cream soups, jelly)

Thank you!
